Pupils' Work

I am currently doing some voluntary work at Oldham Pupil Support Centre, exploring the use of poetry and writing with the pupils. The work so far has been so impressive, I suggested publishing some of it on the web, and so have created this little corner on my website. I will spruce it up soon - but just wanted to get the poems up so the pupils can see their work in "cyber print" straight away.

One of the pupils' projects this term has been about the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. They read about the phenomenon, then found pictures and poems on the Internet. I wrote a poem especially for them and performed it in my best poetry speaking voice, and then we did an exercise where we made a completely new poem from the jumbled up words of another. Very soon the children were adding their own words and the creative juices were flowing - we couldn't stop them writing and steam was coming off the keyboard and page!!!

Here are the poems - for now I have left off the names to see if you can guess which ones are the pupils' work, and which one is mine, so far nobody can tell the difference as all 3 are very good!
